How to Enable Default Suggestions in the Instant Search Widget

How to Enable Default Suggestions in the Instant Search Widget

When a customer clicks into your store’s search bar, the conversion probability starts at that moment. The faster they find what they’re looking for, the more likely they are to stay, browse, and buy.

So, as a merchant, you’re to help your shoppers find what they need. Working hours after hours would go in vain if you take your shoppers’ behaviors for granted. That’s why you need to give most relevant search suggestions to guide them. As they type, smart, helpful phrases pop up, based on what your store has in that segment, what’s trending, or even what they personally searched for before.

In Fynq Image & Search AI, you can fully control how these suggestions appear in your Instant Search Widget, both on desktop and mobile. Let’s walk through the setup.

Confused between Search Suggestions & Default Suggestions?

Where To Manage Search Suggestions in Fynq

To set up and customize your search suggestions:

  1. Open the Fynq Image & Search AI app
  2. Go to Configuration
  3. Click on the Instant Search Widget tab
  4. Here you will find the section called Default Suggestion
Where To Manage default Suggestions

This section includes all the toggles and dropdowns to manage Default Suggestions that are shown when users simply click into the search bar. Here, the recent searches (vary to shoppers) will appear along with the keywords you added in the default suggestion (Search Configuration> Suggestions & Synonyms)

Let’s walk through how each setting works. This is where you’ll find all the toggle switches and quantity settings to adjust suggestions across devices.

  1. Show Popular Default Suggestions

This toggle enables default suggestions when users simply click into the search bar without typing anything.

When ON, Fynq shows a mix of popular search terms, based on what you added as the default suggestions (ConfigurationSuggestions & Synonyms).

Why it’s useful:
It helps guide users who aren’t sure what to search for. Think of it as a shortcut list, terms like “New arrivals,” “Gift ideas,” or “Best sellers.”

Tip:
This works great for promoting trending items, seasonal searches, or storewide campaigns, like “gifts under $50” or “summer sale.”

  1. Show Recent Searches in Default Suggestions

This toggle adds a personal touch. When it’s ON, users will see suggestions based on their own recent search history, along with popular terms.

These are also part of the Default Suggestions group, and they appear when a shopper clicks into the search bar, not while they’re typing.

Why it’s useful:
It helps shoppers return to products they’ve searched before. Especially useful for returning customers or those comparing similar items.

Tip:
This builds familiarity and speeds up repeat browsing.

  1. Default Suggestions on Desktop

This dropdown controls how many default suggestions appear on desktop after a user clicks into the search bar (before typing).

  • Choose between 1 and 10

Tip:
Stick to 3 to 5 suggestions to avoid visual clutter. Let the most useful and high-impact terms stand out.

  1. Default Suggestions on Mobile

Same as above, but for mobile users. Choose between 1 and 10 default suggestions.

Tip:
Mobile screens are small. Showing 2 to 4 default suggestions is often enough. More than that may look crowded and reduce usability.

Wrap-up

Smart search suggestions are more than just a feature. Whether they’re typing or just clicking into the bar, Fynq helps guide them with relevant, intelligent hints that reduce friction and boost discovery. Fynq makes it easy to turn this on, customize the behavior, and make the experience smoother across desktop and mobile.

Try different combinations, test how they look, and let your shoppers enjoy a faster, smarter way to search.
